Local Governments & Infrastructure

This session examines local governments’ essential functions and the infrastructure supporting thriving communities. Participants will engage with key officials who will share detailed insights into governance structures, critical services, and innovative approaches to addressing community needs.

Montgomery County thrives because of the interconnected systems that shape our daily lives—from government and nonprofits to businesses and civic initiatives.


Each session in this series focuses on a critical area of local infrastructure, providing participants with the knowledge, resources, and connections needed to lead and engage effectively. Regardless of focus, elements of this program include:


  • One-day program for busy professionals and community members
  • Understand the various local systems that contribute to a thriving community. 
  • Identify key stakeholders and their roles within these systems. 
  • Gain a foundational understanding of how the local systems operate and how to interact effectively with them, whether as individuals, organizations, or businesses. 
  • Understand the county’s regions, structures, demographics, and industries and how they compare to the broader region and nation.

    Each session in this series focuses on one critical area of local infrastructure, providing participants with the knowledge, resources, and connections needed to lead and engage effectively. Participants will explore the intricate workings of local government, nonprofit, and civic organizations, gaining the tools and confidence to collaborate with key stakeholders, engage in civic life, and drive meaningful impact in their communities. 

  • Who Is It For?

    • Professionals or community members looking for introductory experience in community leadership.  
    • Individuals who have limited time and want to explore leadership practices while building foundational skills. 
    • Individuals new to the county who would like a “crash course” in county systems and key stakeholders
  • When Does It Take Place?

    This one-day intensive will be offered several times throughout the calendar year. The next two offerings are:
