The Core Program makes a significant contribution to Montgomery County's well-being by providing the participants intensive hands-on study and a forum to discuss the issues and challenges facing the County, including communities, transportation, education, public safety, sustainability, multiculturalism, and the arts.

Sessions:
  • Tap the wealth of experience of established leaders from all sectors of the community,
  • Explore social and economic issues, as well as community resources, opportunities and challenges,
  • Include site visits, panel presentations and interactive dialogue,
  • Allow participants to explore their own values, philosophies, prejudices and beliefs,
  • Build trust, rapport and networks between people with different world views.

After the initial nine-month program, class participants join the more than 800 graduates of Leadership Montgomery and are expected to maintain a lifelong membership in the organization. Graduates and their employers benefit from the network as they continue their leadership in the community.

    TESTIMONIALS ABOUT THE PROGRAM

"Having worked in municipal government for over 20 years, I tend to think I know a lot about the community, but it was fascinating to fill in some blanks I didn't even know existed. It's so uplifting to have the opportunity to listen to and talk with people who are out there every day doing such interesting and meaningful things. And being blessed by monks certainly can never hurt!!"
-- Lisa Rother '06, Planning Manager, Montgomery County Executive’s Office

"We are a community of creative unique thinkers and doers. We are a community founded on balance and diversity. Leadership Montgomery helps us understand and celebrate that. The program also teaches us that, as leaders in our community, we have an opportunity and responsibility to continue to develop that fabric so that we do not lose over time the character that have made this County so great."
-- Charles Covell '05, President, Bozzuto Homes, Inc.

"The LM program, with its structure of a day for each different aspect of the County, does not cover everything we should know, but enough to awaken in us the realization that we are part of the same fabric."
-- Carmen Ortiz Larsen '04, President, AQUAS, Inc., and Past President, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County

"How could I possibly learn more about the fire department than by spending an evening in a fire station? I learned more in that evening from a 29-year-old fireman than I ever could from local papers and TV coverage."
-- Frank Mondell '03, President & CEO, The Williamson Group, Inc.
